CBS 2 News at 5 p.m. will air a story about cardiologists at University of Illinois Medical Center and Jesse Brown VA who have implemented a new approach to heart angiograms and clearing blocked arteries. The procedure, called transradial angiography, uses a catheter threaded through the small radial artery in the wrist rather than the larger femoral artery in the groin. Dr. Mladen Vidovich, UIC assistant professor of cardiology, and a patient were interviewed about the benefits to patients, including fewer complications and recovery time and decreased hospital costs.
