The Cardiomyopathy and Heart Failure program at the University of Illinois at Chicago Medical Center provides a comprehensive, interdisciplinary evaluation of patients with ventricular dysfunction and chronic heart failure, emphasizing accurate assessment of functional status and an estimation of risk and prognosis. Individualized treatment tailored to the patient’s blood circulation is provided, and in certain patients, the use of investigational agents will be offered. In selected patients who fail medical therapy, cardiac transplantation may be offered as an alternative.
As part of a well-rounded approach to patient care, behavior modification, including dietary management and smoking cessation, psychological and social evaluation, and counseling are offered. Patients will be offered a team-based approach to cardiomyopathy and heart failure. Team members include a Cardiologist with specialized training in heart failure and transplantation, a pharmacist, psychologist, nurse, social worker, physical therapist and dietitian. Other program objectives include discover new information on the changes associated with heart failure, diagnosis, natural history and management of patients with heart failure and to serve as a resource to the medical community on new advances in these areas.
