Eunice John, MD Division Head, Pediatric Nephrology Director, Pediatric Dialysis Unit Pediatric Transplant Physician
With over 30 years of experience in the field of Pediatric Nephrology, 27 of them spent at UIC on the transplant team, Dr. John has been extensively honored for her dedication and expertise. “I cherish the opportunity to serve both poor and advantaged children; and to help make it possible for them to receive the gift of life.” says Dr. John. Active in nephrology practice, research and teaching, author in over 100 publications, Dr. John applauds the high quality academic atmosphere and peer comradeship at UIC that enable her to do the work she loves.
Dr. John has been twice nominated for Pediatrician of the year, honored four times as “Best Doctor in Chicago Metropolitan Area,” named one of the “Best Doctors in America,” and has received the “Best Teaching Award” from the Chancelor’s office five times. |

Additional Services and Programs
If a child needs to be hospitalized, he or she will stay in our Pediatric Unit. Designed specifically for children, this unit includes:
- General Pediatrics - designed for children recovering from illness or injury.
- Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) - provides intensive around-the clock nursing care and medical therapy for children who are very ill or are recovering from recent surgery. Patienst recovering from severe illness are placed in the Pediatric Step Down Unit for a smooth transition from PICU to the General Pediatric Unit.
- Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) - for newborns who are premature, under-weight, or in need of medical intervention.
