Family Medicine

The Department of Family Medicine at the University of Illinois Medical Center provides high quality, comprehensive health care for people of all ages - infants through adulthood. We also provide outstanding care to the diverse student population of the University. All our family physicians are board-certified in the specialty of Family Medicine and are active members of the faculty of the UIC College of Medicine. They are dedicated to the advancement of medical knowledge through education and research in addition to superior service to their patients. The Department of Family Medicine is also a direct referral connection to the many exceptional specialty care practice areas which receive national recognition for excellence.

The physicians, nurse practitioners and academic faculty of the Department of Family Medicine are all committed to communicating values of culturally sensitive medical care, health maintenance and preventive services. This care is intended to be comprehensive and continuous and available to each member of the family regardless of gender, age or type of problem. Medical students and resident doctors have extensive contact with patients and we believe the collaborative approach – that is patients working with us to decide on the best type of care based on individual needs – is the best approach.

We are a world-class training center for medical and nurse-practitioner students; which means you can take advantage of having several medical minds contributing to your care as well as the satisfaction of knowing that you have added to the education of future health care professionals.

The Family Medicine Centers

The family medicine centers play an integral part in the training of our residents. Together, they provide the settings for residents during their three years of training. Their differences complement each other, providing a combination of training in both a predominately insured population and a primarily underserved urban environment.
