Geriatric Medicine
Welcome to Geriatric Mediine. No physician group feels more strongly than we do that, "you're only as young as you feel." Our mission is to help postpone aging and deal with physical, emotional and cognitive problems late in life. As specialized physicians - geriatricians - at the University of Illinois Medical Center, we help patients meet the challenges of aging, and provide superior care when acute illnesses strike. Family members often approach us with concerns about the health of their senior loved ones, and we welcome your contacts.
Our goals are to provide comprehensive evaluations and create team-oriented healthcare plans that prevent disability and reactivate seniors after an acute illness.

Falling Hard Remember the old Saturday Night Live bit where Chevy Chase played President Ford and commanded the laughs for falling down as a part of the act? This was funny to watch on screen but, when it comes to falling, especially over the age of 65, it’s plain dangerous. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, falling is the leading cause of injury-related death in people over 65, primarily the result of hip fracture complications. And with a growing population of elderly people living longer and healthier lives, falling is suddenly no laughing matter. Why do people fall more as they age? There are intrinsic changes associated with the aging process. The changes that increase the risk of falling are a degrading musculoskeletal system, sensory function, and gait changes associated with aging.
The Elusive Z’s As people age, there are lots of changes. Some are welcome, like retirement and a chance to pursue new activities. But then there are some changes that aren't so welcome.
