Health Hazard Evaluation Program

Health Hazard Evaluation Program

The Health Hazard Evaluation Program provides evaluation and treatment of occupational and environmental injuries and diseases, such as: Asthma, allergies, asbestos-related diseases, cancer, toxicology conditions, carpal tunnel syndrome, and sick building syndrome.

Health Hazard Evaluation is a study of a particular place or community, such as a department of a particular factory, office building or neighborhood area. The study is done to find out whether there is a health hazard to workers or residents caused by an exposure to toxic chemicals or materials. This consultative service is for workers, residents, businesses and communities, and evaluations can be requested by individuals or groups. The evaluations offer impartial and scientific findings of hazards.

In conjunction with the Illinois Department of Public Health, this innovative program provides industry or communities with expertise in the planning and execution of environmental epidemiological studies. We have provided consultation on a wide range of topics including the public health effects of flooding; assessment of health effects from indoor exposure to methyl parathion; exposure assessment of children exposed to arsenic in a local playground; and stress in the workplace.

No other public program within the state of Illinois provides such a multi-disciplinary approach.
