The Maxillofacial Prosthetics Clinic

By the 1960s, there became a need for a comprehensive program of prosthetic services at The Craniofacial Center. Medical artist, Alice Katz, joined the team in order to make facial prostheses. This was the first such program of its kind in the world.

By 1970, Dr. Henry Gold, one of the premier restorative dentists in Chicago, joined the team to provided specialized care for the complex dental needs of The Center's growing patient population. In addition to caring for patients with congenital cleft and craniofacial conditions, The Clinic began treating patients with head and neck cancer and craniofacial trauma.

As patient populations grew, so too did the demand for prosthetic services. In addition to oral and facial prosthetics, The Maxillofacial Prosthetics Clinic now provides limb and eye prosthetic services. The Clinic has an extensive program using oral and craniofacial osseointegrated implants for rehabilitation. In addition to prosthetic rehabilitation, The Clinic manages the dental needs of patients undergoing head and neck radiation therapy and chemotherapy and those undergoing organ transplant.

The Maxillofacial Prosthetics Clinic is the premier prosthetics center in the Midwest and was chosen as one of the original research sites to test the use of craniofacial implants in the United States. As one of the leading facilities in the country, we strive to make the most functional, cosmetic prosthesis possible for each patient.
The staff of The Maxillofacial Prosthetics Clinic includes a board-certified maxillofacial prosthodontist, two anaplastologists/medical artists, a certified dental technician, and a board certified ocularist. All are integral members of The Craniofacial Center and work closely with other team members in The Craniofacial Center to provide complete care for each patient.
